This Beginner-level WordPress Tutorial is the second of two parts about how to create lists or menus of links using the Blogroll. These menus usually appear in the sidebar of a WordPress page or post. In this second part of this tutorial, I show how you can make lists of links to pages or posts within your own website or blog. This is a handy way to create additional navigation within your site given that WordPress themes often have a limited amount of space for main page navigation (About Us, Contact Us, etc.). -by Mark McLaren of McBuzz Communications

This Beginner-level WordPress tutorial shows how to create a “child” subpage that has another page as its “parent”. You can make links to these subpages using the Blogroll. In some WordPress themes, links to child subpages appear underneath a link to the parent page in the website navigation links – either in the sidebar or under the main horizontal navigation links. In other WordPress themes, you cannot see any links to child pages. In either case, you can create a visible link to a child page by making a new link under one of your Blogroll categories. This tutorial also shows how to find the web address (URL) of a WordPress child page when it is not visible anywhere in the website navigation links.

The original video tutorial is open to guests and members at http://machouse.mhvt.net with a resolution of 900 x 675 pixels. Some 24 hours ago, we signed up for a new web hosting plan with IPOWER (http://seo.mhvt.net/web_hosting/web_hosting/web_hosting_providers/web_hosting_providers_ipowerweb.php). Why IPOWER? That’s only because we have never used their web hosting plans. That’s also because it was affordable. It was only US$59.40 per year. Is IPOWER a great web host? We don’t know as we’ve been using our hosting account for just 24 hours. And we are not releasing this video tutorial to evaluate or promote IPOWER’s hosting plans. This video tutorial shows how to install WordPress (blog software) on a remote Lunux shared server. It’s a complete coverage of everything that one needs to know in installing WordPress on a remote Linux server. We discuss what file to edit, how to create a database, how and what file to upload… We show some common mistakes that people make in installing WordPress. In the first part of the WordPress installation tutorial series, we start off at the point where we just signed up for a web hosting plan and there is not even a single file installed yet. So we access the control panel at the website of the web hosting company to set up a database user. We then download the zip version of WordPress software pakcage and edit the configure file. This video tutorial is not designed just for IPOWER users. Whether you have a web hosting plan with HostMonster, PowWeb, Lunarpages, rackspace Hosting or whatever, there is little difference in the way you install a particular PHP script package. And we can say that because we have had several different web hosting companies including StartLogic, HostMonster and Lunarpages to host our websites for the past 3 years.

This beginner-level tutorial by Mark McLaren of McBuzz Communications teaches you to wrap text around an image using WordPress version 2.5 or later. And it shows how to insert an image and align it left, right or center. In earlier version 2.3 and earlier of WordPress, it was necessary to use the Code (HTML) editing window to insert a bit of HTML (using cascading style sheets) to get images and text to line up right. WordPress 2.5 and 2.6 improve text wrapping. Additional HTML code is not necessary. Just use the Add an Image dialog box to set image alignment, and text wraps nicely and aligns well with the image.
